Product editor

The product editor is the popup you open when you add or edit a menu item. Two tabs, Details and Modifiers. This is the most important tool for making sure Aloo describes your menu accurately on the phone.

#Before you begin: the three menu terms

Three terms show up throughout the editor. Understanding them makes the rest of the page easy.

ModifierA group of choices attached to a single item. The customer must pick from the group (or may pick, depending on the rule) before the item is complete.On a burger: a “Bread type” modifier with choices White, Wheat, Gluten-free.
Shared modifierA modifier defined once and reused across many items. Editing the shared definition updates every item that uses it.A “Size” modifier (Small / Medium / Large) reused on every drink and every side.
Option valueAn individual choice inside a modifier. Has a name (bilingual) and can carry an extra price that adds to the item total.“Gluten-free” is an option value of the “Bread type” modifier, with an extra 0.500 KWD.

Rule of thumb

Use a shared modifier when the same group of choices appears on three or more items. For choices that only belong to one item, keep the modifier on that item.

#Details tab

The Details tab captures everything about the item itself.

Name
English and Arabic. Both are required for the agent to speak about the item in both languages.
Description
English and Arabic. Empty descriptions make it harder for the agent to describe the item.
Price (KWD)
The base price, before any extras from modifiers.
Category
Which category this item belongs to.
Item image
Upload a photo. Drag-and-drop works. Aloo checks the format and size before saving.
Tags
Up to 5 short tags (max 25 characters each) for internal use. Useful for flavour matching, dietary markers, or grouping items for promotions.
Availability
Whether the item is currently orderable. Unavailable items are not offered on the phone.

#Modifiers tab

The Modifiers tab is where you attach option groups to the item.

Add a modifier to the item
Either pick an existing shared modifier from the list, or create a new modifier just for this item.
Add option values
Inside a modifier, add the individual choices with bilingual names and any extra price.
Set the selection rule
Mark the modifier as required or optional, and choose single-select (Pick one) or multi-select (Pick many).
Reorder
The order of modifiers and option values matters. It's the order Aloo will read them to a caller.
